Brief

This conceptual product design case study demonstrates the design process of creating a wearable technology solution that can track pressure on impact between soccer players and support VAR systems.

The product has the potential to significantly impact the soccer industry and has already generated interest from various soccer clubs and governing bodies. As a product designer, I am confident that this solution will revolutionize the way fouls are judged in soccer and lead to improved player safety.

Process

Conducted market research to identify existing solutions and understand the current challenges in the soccer industry

Engaged with stakeholders, including soccer players, referees, and industry experts, to gather insights on the needs and expectations for such a product

Created multiple personas and documented current pain-points faced while playing the sport

Developed a user-centered design approach to illustrate the system and ergonomics of the wearable technology

Considerations

Accuracy of Data: Ensuring the data collected is accurate and consistent can be a challenge, especially with the fast-paced nature of soccer.

Comfort and Wearability: Ensuring the wearable tech is comfortable for players to wear and doesn’t restrict their movement or performance on the field.

Interference with Soccer Equipment: The wearable tech may interfere with other equipment such as soccer cleats or shin guards, making it difficult for players to wear.

Cost: The cost of the wearable tech and the cost of integrating it into the existing VAR systems may be a barrier to implementation.
